The first round of the 2017 EnduroCross season was held at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada last Saturday and I got the opportunity to race test a Purvines DA8 Race Yamaha YZ250F in the Open Amateur course, which happened to be Destry Abbott’s racebike. The Yamaha YZ250F won the 2017 250F MX Shootout, so the bike is an excellent platform to start from when building an EnduroCross weapon. The Purvines DA8 Racing group did just that when they switched over to the blue machines for the 2017 season and we got a direct experience to see how their bicycle performs in some of the toughest racing conditions found indoors.

ENGINE:
The Yamaha YZ250F makes a notable amount of power in stock manner and does so over the entire powerband. One of the most impressive parts of the serps is the amount of torque it makes, which turned out to be somewhat uncommon trait for a two hundred fifity four-stroke. Being that the classes through EnduroCross are not bound by cycle size, Destry installs a Cyndrical tube Works 270cc big bore set to further improve upon these positive character. The power output of the mid-range since top-end power are noticeably improved upon over the stock engine, but the bottom-end is where it’s most noticeable getting amount of torque is significantly multiplied. This setup works great for an EnduroCross track because getting traction is the name of the game, especially once sea water from the pond gets dragged right up onto the obstacles. I was remarkably impressed at how easy it was throughout lug the bike low in unquestionably the rpms through the rock pile. Ones throaty bottom-end power also came in handy when powering out of an appartment corner as it was easy to maintain non-skid and keep the bike moving forward somewhat than sideways.

Another key component in the website is the Rekluse RadiusCX auto set. The RadiusCX is a new variety for the Idaho company and is their particular top of the line auto clutch. I used the clutch as I would a normal set and being that the track wasn’t as technical as most seen in year’s past, I didn’t find on my own using it as much as I thought I would, it also still came in handy in the tight sections of the track such as the rock and roll turn over the log, the boulders, and the Matrix. It saved a total of in a few tight spots when I briefly lost control and would have stalled the bike otherwise. Part of the regarding the clutch was the peace of mind present in knowing that I wouldn’t stall generally the bike if I made a mistake or maybe if my clutch finger was worked. Additionally , the clutch had her excellent feel at the lever in addition to only thing I really had to get used to was where the engagement point was just. I adjusted it a little more completely out to suit in more to my loving.

The teams runs exclusive FMF Factory 4. 1 loaded titanium exhaust system, which had a throatier and quieter sound than the products exhaust system. They also use a Vortex déflagration that is remapped by Mike Spannende at MT Racing and get started with VP Racing Fuels’ MRX02 mixture of race fuel in the bike. Destry informed us they originally used the fuel brand’s popular MR12 stir, but found it boiled on occasions, especially in the higher elevation races for example , Denver, Colorado. Switching to MRX02 provided the additional power they were researching while staying below the boiling element.

Destry is not only an excellent rider, but he also also knows a thing or two about suspension. It got the front and rear end dialed for me after watching me for a number of laps.

SUSPENSION:
The stock suspension on the Yamaha YZ250F is excellent. Of the KYB SSS front forks are often the plushest stock forks on the market together with rear shock has a similar lavish, confidence inspiring feeling. Destry maintains his suspension massaged by ET?, which is valved and sprung for the his weight of about 200 escess weight. Destry is a pro-level EnduroCross racing, so I expected the suspension efficient pretty stiff for my 130-pound frame and amateur-level EnduroCross expertise. Surprisingly, the suspension wasn’t basically stiff as I anticipated and it saved the plush feeling the inventory suspension is highly praised for. Looking for watching me ride, Destry proceeded to make a few adjustments to the confluent and shock to soften up and help it absorb the stumbling-blocks better. The changes he made included giong five clicks softer on the compression setting and one click stiffer on the rebound for the fork. On the shock, she or he went five clicks softer by the compression and a half turn softer inflicting high speed compression. I raced condition LCQ after these changes were made and the bike soaked up the road-blocks much better and felt more grown in the rock garden.

CHASSIS:
Destry adds a number of aftermarket parts into his racebike – some with regard to performance and some for protection. Maybe the most performance-oriented part in this determined by would be the Dunlop gummy rear fatigue. The rubber is extremely soft aid knobbies flex very easily. The roll hooked up incredibly well on the EnduroCross obstacles, especially in the rock garden when it became slick as the day followed. To prevent flats and also allow the strain to flex, Destry installs Tire Balls set at 8 POUND-FORCE PER SQUARE INCH.

The team uses Fasst bars and a GPR complete setup with the stabilizer and then top triple clamp. I did not really notice the stabilizer, but As i wasn’t going at a blazing speedy speed where it may have been more noticeable. The Seat Concepts seat cowl offered plenty of traction, even when Truly placed myself further back inflicting seat when having to paddle about way through the rock section once or twice. EnduroCross can be hard on equipment, totally Destry uses a number of complents to help protect his YZ250F including a BRP cycle guide, ARC composite folding redressers, Works Connection radiator braces, Work better rims, a Bullet Proof Designs tail disc guard, and an AXP skidplate.

CONCLUSION:
Being able to race my first EnduroCross on Destry’s racebike was the perfect experience. The bike performed quite well and I have no complaints about the application. It was super easy to get used to appear user friendly powerband, auto clutch, but also plush suspension. In addition to testing Destry’s bike, I also received advice from charlie throughout the entire day of racing. You can read that story in the December 2017 issue of Dirt Ravager Magazine and be sure to keep an eye out handful of videos from my day and are generally racing as well as an interview with Destry.
