November 16, 2016 – Destry Abbott’s world was forever changed when he obtained a diagnosis of leukemia in May 2016. Since then the 10-time national desert racing champion has been facing the challenge of a lifetime against the terrible condition. Six months later, Destry is on the tail end of his treatment, and is thrilled with the news that he will NOT require a bone marrow transplant – as many leukemia patients do. But true to form, Destry has already been looking for ways to use his own experience to assist others, and to that end, is certainly asking for your support in a Function as the Match® bone marrow donor generate at the final round of AMA EnduroCross Series in Ontario, Ca.

“My family and I are so relieved that will things are looking really good and I won’t need a bone marrow transplant, ” said Abbott. “This means following the first week of December I’ll be done with my treatments and may get back to everyday stuff (like riding)! But there are a lot of people who aren’t so lucky in their fight against leukemia plus we’re looking to help the cause simply by getting people to register with the Be The Match foundation at the Ontario EnduroCross. ”

Be The Match is a registry subscriber organization that helps people diagnosed with leukemia find matching donors. Leukemia is really a type of cancer that affects the blood, bone marrow and lymphoid system. It is a treatable cancer yet matching donors need to be found regarding bone marrow transplants.

Be The Match is the same foundation that helped Kim McGrath, wife of seven-time Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath, find her bone marrow donor and eventually win her fight with leukemia.

Through cooperation with Destry Abbott’s DA8 Solid team, Be The Match will be on location at the Citizen’s Business Financial institution Arena at the final round from the AMA EnduroCross Series on Saturday, November 19 from 4: 00 to 6: 00 p. m. in the pit area and from 6: 30 to 7: thirty p. m. in the concourse from the arena.

Registering is easy and can be done on the event, or can be done by ordering a kit online at http://join.marrow.org/endurocross. Be The Match asks for healthy volunteers between 18 and 44 years old. Registering is quick and simple, and consists of running a swab on the inside of your quarter to determine your tissue type.

“We anticipate helping raise awareness for this trigger, and we hope to help save some lives by finding matches for additional patients, ” said Destry. “Thank you in advance to everyone pertaining to joining us. And as always, I must thank this incredible industry with regard to so much support for me and my loved ones. We’re looking forward to having this battle behind us very soon. ”
