Washoe Region public lands bill public forum has been announced.
The public forum that is set to discuss the Washoe County Community Lands Bill is set to occur on November 2 at the Reno Sets off Convention Center at 4: thirty p. m.
The Washoe County General public Lands Bill aims to address the next priorities:
- Make certain federal lands around the greater Reno-Sparks area are available for long term economic development opportunities.
- Expanding recreational opportunities in Washoe County by providing land for parks, trails and open space.
- Creating opportunities for local jurisdictions to acquire federal lands to back up their varied needs.
- Designating new wilderness areas within the northern portion of the county and providing funding for habitat recovery and other conservation efforts countywide.

Washoe County Community Services Section published two maps of proposed areas that Washoe County is definitely requesting be transferred out of federal government ownership for economic development, preservation and other civic purposes. Mapping contains requests from the local jurisdictions plus public stakeholders. Commissioners approved the draft mapping of the areas that may be impacted by the transfer of land. The two maps can be seen here (See map one and map two). Washoe County has also created an info page for residents to view on the web.
